Job Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Project Accounting professional with relevant experience to join the regional finance team. The ideal candidate will possess a solid finance skillset, high attention to detail, an aptitude for learning, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
This newly created role reports to the Regional Finance Manager and is responsible for collecting and carefully processing all administrative and financial data related to project completion in relevant systems. This ensures accurate and timely invoicing to customers and allows for proper job profitability assessment.
Responsibilities
1. Financial Management, Reporting, and Cost Control:
- Oversee and manage project budgets, ensuring all financial activities align with project goals and timelines.
- Track and reconcile expenditures against approved budgets, identifying variances and providing actionable recommendations.
- Analyze project costs to identify trends and opportunities for cost savings while maintaining project quality.
2. Billing and Invoicing:
- Manage the full financial lifecycle of projects, including revenue recognition, project accruals, and closures, based on POC/milestones.
- Collaborate with project managers to efficiently close completed projects, ensuring all financial aspects are accounted for and preparing comprehensive final financial reports.
- Prepare and manage accurate client invoices, ensuring adherence to agreed-upon terms and timelines.
- Develop and maintain payment schedules, following up on overdue accounts to ensure timely collections.
- Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies by liaising with internal teams and clients to maintain financial accuracy.
3. Compliance and Documentation:
- Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date financial records for each project, ensuring all transactions are properly documented.
- Conduct regular reviews to ensure compliance with contract terms, company policies, tax regulations, and audit requirements.
- Prepare and organize financial data to support audits and regulatory inspections effectively.
4. Process Improvement:
- Document, develop, and maintain comprehensive documentation for accounting processes, creating clear guidelines for internal use.
- Identify inefficiencies or redundancies in current workflows and implement solutions, such as automation tools or revised processes, to improve productivity and mitigate errors.
5. Project Participation:
- Serve as a finance partner in cross-functional projects, including ERP implementations, software upgrades, and operational restructures, ensuring accurate integration of accounting practices.
- Contribute to initiatives aimed at improving financial systems and processes, from scoping requirements to testing and deployment, ensuring alignment with business needs.
6. Soft Skills and Professional Development:
- Collaboration and Communication: Work effectively with cross-functional teams, providing financial insights and building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving and Analytical Thinking: Demonstrate critical thinking and a proactive approach to resolving accounting discrepancies and improving processes.

Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in project or general accounting (preferably in the service industry).
- Proven track record of operating in a professional environment and delivering exceptional results for both internal and external customers.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
- MBA preferred.
Considered Assets
- Experience in the Oil & Gas, Energy, or Industrial Service industry.
- Business Central experience.
- Full-cycle accounting experience.
- CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant in Canada) designation or in progress.
