Bridging growth before entity setup

How we helped a U.S. company hire and payroll engineers in Ontario while they built their Canadian presence.

Partnership length:

Project-based expansion support

Hiring focus:

Ontario-based software engineers

Model:

Employer of Record (bridge to entity setup)

Outcome:

Engineers hired before entity launch

Key advantage:

Compliant hiring without delays

The client context

A U.S.-based technology company was expanding into Canada and identified Ontario as a key hiring market for engineering talent. They were ready to hire but didn’t yet have a Canadian entity in place. While plans were underway to open an office, they needed a compliant way to move quickly in the meantime.

They wanted to hire great people now — without rushing entity setup, creating legal risk, or slowing down growth.

The challenge

The client faced a common expansion dilemma:

  • They needed to hire engineers in Ontario immediately
  • They had no local entity to employ or payroll staff
  • They wanted full compliance with Canadian employment, payroll, and tax requirements
  • They didn’t want to lose candidates while waiting for incorporation

This wasn’t a long-term outsourcing decision. It was a bridge — a way to hire, onboard, and support employees properly while their Canadian footprint was being built.

The solution

We supported the client through a hire-first, entity-later Employer of Record model. We recruited and hired Ontario-based engineers on their behalf, then employed them through our EOR structure. This allowed the client to:

  • Onboard employees quickly and compliantly
  • Run Canadian payroll without a local entity
  • Offer a professional, localized employee experience
  • Focus on business setup without slowing hiring momentum

Our team handled hiring and then employment contracts, payroll, statutory deductions, and ongoing HR support, while the engineers worked day-to-day as part of the client’s core team.

The results

The client successfully hired and onboarded their Ontario-based engineering team without delay. Projects stayed on track, candidates were secured, and employees had a seamless experience from day one.

As the business progressed with its Canadian expansion plans, the EOR model gave leadership breathing room — time to plan their office launch properly rather than rush it.

What started as a temporary solution became a strategic bridge, allowing the client to grow in Canada with confidence and control.
